Now that I know that name of this plant I want to ask if anyone has taken pieces of the plant inside to try to overwinter it for starts for next year? I found that I really like the plant and want to use some in hanging baskets next year. It doesn't show up in the photo, but the plant has a silvery look to it and feels a lot like lambs ears. It is so robust that you can crack off a piece and just stick it in the ground and off it goes. Mary

Mary, I think licorice plant usually refers to Helichrysum petiolare, which is very hardy, but this doesn't look quite like it. This looks like Plectranthus to me, which is equally easy to overwinter indoors. I usually take cuttings, drop in a glass of water, and pot up when roots appear. I've overwintered for three years now this way.

David you are probably right. I looked up Plectranthus Argentatus and it looks just like mine, thanks. Mary

Mary, you'll find this very easy to grow and a wonderful plant. Does this one "stink" when you rub the leaves? It may not be P. argentatus. That plant should have thick white "fur" all over the leaves, and it grows about 5 ft tall. Here was my P. argentatus from last year:
Yours looks very similar to an unidentified Plectranthus species I have that I will be posting in the Indoor Plant forum, as it is currently in bloom. It has a very strong smell.
