The masked bandit strikes again...raccoons often visit our bird feeders after dark. I don't begrudge them the meal, even when they sometimes use our porch for a bathroom after they eat.

This is so familiar! The other night I forgot to bring in my plastic bird feeder and the racoons destroyed it. Like you I don't begrudge them though, they're so cute. Great photo! I love the expression on his face.

Oh Marcia - what an adorable little fellow. Will he let you hold him? Such a precious little face.

Cute yes, but very nasty if crossed! The neighbour's dog had a run-in with a 40lb coon who was trying to get into the chicken barn. The dog with the farmer had to destroy the raccoon, and then the dog had to be treated for serious wounds by the vet. One needs to be careful of rabies in raccoons as well. It has recently crossed the border from the US. Coons drink at our creek and produce offspring in our barn. They also destroy the shingles on our roof, trying to enter the house for the winter. We once had a set of 5 babies removed from an interior wall. Also they eat fish and turtle babies.

Ah-ha! Caught in the act! Quite the photo! lol! The raccoons around hardly ever come up to the house and stay back deep in the woods. With the big pond back there they find enough to eat there I guess...which is a good thing. 8-)

LOve the shot! This also shows why wood poles are very very bad for bird houses, since Raccoons love bird eggs.
