I was just passing and happened to see this bug on one of my geraniums. Didnt really take much time over it and never expected it to come out but I was quite please with the results.
looks to me as if he is having a drink :)

Mine has to be my blister beetle. He was on some goldenrod and was absolutely fascinating. He didn't stay long, when I went indoors to get my other batteries and came back to take more pictures he had gone.

OMG Jonathan and Sue your photos are wonderful. How did you get so close to the hawk moth? I have never even seen one :( Sue the colours on that beetle are wonderful. I never realised just how colourful insects were until I started to photograph them.

Not as stunning a picture, but maybe more of a surprise...I was out walking with my neighbour yesterday making the most of the sunshine and trying to get some pictures of the spectacular autumn colour, when this little guy's camouflage was almost too effective, and my friend had to brake with her foot about six inches above his head.

I have one who lives in the garden too, and he's even more handsome (well, you know what I mean) yellower than this little chap. When it was really dry this summer I had the sprinkler on in the main bed and when I went to move it he was sitting right under it having a bath!

Great photos Buddies! Nature at her serendipity best! My all time unexpected nature shot (some of you have seen this already) occurred earlier this year while visiting Cuba. I was photographing this banana flower and just as I clicked a Cuban Emerald hummingbird zipped in and out of the viewfinder. I didn't even know what had happened until I saw the picture afterwards! It's my current all time favourite photo. I still get a thrill remembering that moment!
