I've been noticing these little guys more recently now the leaf cover is very reduced. I thought they were chipmunks at first as they're so small. They're pretty quick too!

What cuties, did you see the pictures of grey ones I posted they are huge! 50% larger than a regular squirrel.

lovely photos. sorry to disappoint but that is a grey squirrel!! :O Red Squirrels have leaner bodies than greys and their coats are very tan/red, no hint of grey at all. Also one distinguishing mark is the very long tufts that they have on their ears :)

He was on the bird feeder post this morning..
Annette, this is the American red squirrel, very different from the grey, and also from the European red. I have both red & grey kinds in my yard and they are very different.

Hi Kniphofia I have just seen a photo for the american grey and your red. It seems that your red squirrels are actually our greys (our greys have some red in them like that) Here is a photo of our red squirrel

Sue - those are great photos! So close. Annette - wasn't it the American greys that came over here and are now stealing the native red's territory...! That last picture is what I know as a red squirrel - gorgeous.

yes galanthophile they were but if you see the grey squirrel photographed in an earlier thread they are all grey with not a hint of red on them so who knows. Is part of the problem also that the greys interbreed with the red or do they just drive them out?

hey those pics are amazing ,unfortunatly i dont have to many squirels around or on my place but so its a lot more difficult to get a good shot of them, but seeing these pics i doubt if there is any improvement possible!

Great photos. We had a black squirrel in our yard two days ago. It's the second time in 20 years in this house that I've seen one.
