We've had a little visitor in the greenhouse of late; a Short-tailed Weasel, the first I've ever seen. She's been very busy eating all the mice that move in at this time of year. She's very friendly yet mischievous and pokes her head out of the plant benches and even snuck over to investigate my clog!
When she runs out of mice she'll head back to the woodlot from where she came to continue her hunting there. In the winter they turn pure white as camouflage against the snow. I had no idea how cute weasels could be! (But when she finishes with the mice we will say good-bye.)

Isn't she tiny! You did so well to capture her at all. That first photo is a great shot!

What a cutie. Reminds me of the wild mink that wandered into the mink farm in the village where I was raised. It was just like your weasle but it was a bred mink that escaped and someone had spent a lot of time "socializing" it. It used to rice on the farmers shoulder all day long. They sure have cute faces but they sure can be nasty too.

What a cutie! Definitely ferret-like. You shouldn't have a problem with mice.

Beautiful photo, Carol. The weasels we have here would never come that close and they are really vicious little things.

Oh how cute! I used to say "Every green house needs a cat" but now I will have to change that, and say "...a cat or a cute weasel"!

Weasel update: The little weasel that we started to call "Louweasel" has moved on it seems. We've not seen tail or whisker of her for several days now, and our greenhouse is sans mice! This is with mixed relief and regret. She sure was a great mouser, but as yesterday we hosted three Horticultural Societies for a tour of our tropical greenhouses it was just as well that Louweasel wasn't popping out of palms to say "hello!". We may have had to add some cushions for some of the folks to faint onto. ;-) Perhaps we could set up a contract with Louweasel for monthly service visits.....?
