As some of you know I was in Quebec a few weeks this fall. A surprise to me was to see the butterfly Monarch many places. Here i post one picture I took one day.

Yes these Monarchs are very big. We do not have them here in Norway, but I have seen many of them on the Island Madeira where I use to be 3 weeks every winter (Nov. / Dec.). Very interesting !!

Wish we had some more exotic butterflies here, too, Finn - Madeira must be like living in a dream. Do you have any pictures from there - it would be great to see what the flora (and fauna) are really like?!

Madeira is just fantastic for a nature lover like me. There are not so many different butterflies, but flowers Oh Boy ! I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures - but not so many in digital form. From my homepage there is one thread (starting from "Flowertours") where you can see a few pictures from Madeira. There will be some more later. You find it here: http://home.online.no/~frosholm/madeira.html

I post two pictures here Ian with the view from the "Garden in the nature". But I will bring some more pictures other places (may be Vacation Gallery ?) later. Special wishes ? I am back there again in about 4 weeks from now. These are two views over Funchal City from up in the hills and with part of the Botanical Garden in front.

Wonderful picture of the Monarch Finn, it is so beautiful. I'm so envious. November must be wonderful to spend at Madeira, it can be such an ugly month here in southern Sweden, gray and depressing! Some friends go to Madeira in March every year, they say February-April are the best months at Madeira (so much beauty at that time of the year). What do you think? Would love to go there.

I agree, Ingmarie, that April / May is probably the best time for admiring flowers on Madeira. But these months it can be very wet also ! We go during November / December because - as you say, it is so gray and depressing here - and we just need some warmth. We go this year I think for the 11th time, and we have never regretted. Normally approx 20 (C) in the Atlantic and 22 - 25 (C)in the air. Here you see a typical part of a coastline with some Alohe Vera in the foreground. And also a picture from a stormy day !} Sorry - uploading doesn't seem to work any more ??
