This is quite funny really. I was watering yesterday afternoon and filling up the bromeliad vases I heard what sounded like a scream and it seemed to come from one particular bromeliad. I filled some more of them and no sound there and went back to the one from where the sound seemed to come and once again a high pitched scream. I parted the leaves and there in the vase was this pretty little chap.
Is he a Cicada?? I looked on Google but there were all different shapes and colours.

Wow that's a big bug! I am not sure what it is, looks kinda cicadaish but the sound isn't right for the ones I know.

You'd think he was a bug out of a Harry Potter book! (Screamer, get it? The Mandrakes that screamed?) Love your flora & fauna Carolyn

Today I went back and he is still there so I picked him up. His little sticky feet felt so nice on my hand.
You can see his size against my hand. He also has quite a big tummy. I stroked his wings and gently blew on him and his eyes moved but he didn't temp to fly away - I put him safely back inside the bromeliad.
