hi all, i have seed i want to start whats a good way to germinate? i have potting soil mix also vermiculite and perlite. now i read somewere that they should be put on top of the soil mix because they need light so what else do i do?. please help. thanks pat

Hello Patrick, I have some aquilegia seeds in baggies with vermiculite at the moment, which are just starting to germinate but if you are going to sow the seeds in pots I would make sure you use a soil-less seed raising mix and not ordinary potting mix. Last year I grew some in old plastic salad containers from the supermarket, ( they worked like mini greenhouses) with soil-less seed raising mix and a tiny amount of vermiculite on top. They did really well for me.

Redstar113, I just put a seed where I want them to grow and let nature take it's course. I don't fuss here.

I find they do quite well under the management of mother nature too......sometimes too well.LOL
