How utterly charming they are Richard, what is the name of the first one?
I love the pleats.
I have some Pink Tower and some pale blue seedlings at the moment, will prolly have to wait till next year for flowers.
Not sure they are pleated like yours though.

Blue is my favorite color in the garden

I have not seen any that were pleated like this before. These pic are gorgeous..
it is too early for ours yet. They are just coming up through the soil

I know they will germinate quite quickly in the garden soil with direct sowing.

I have a lot of them but not like these pleated ones

The seed pkg I have are not pleated, Sigh!!

I think I will start them inside and hope for the best

Hi Carolyn, am finding it strange that my aquilegias are more advanced than yours in my zone 4b.I thought zone 6a would be well ahead of me.

Maggie pie

That is ok

so many people do not understand zones properly

There can be 100;s of people with the same zone but that does not mean all plants everywhere in the country will come up at the same time

It goes by when the sun circles the earth to warm the soil the same temps as you

So the sun is stronger at your part of the world than here at this time

it will take another 3 -4 weeks before the sun circles to where I will have the same sun strength as you

The same as time zones. The sun up in NS is not the same time each day as it is in NB even when NB is just less than 3 hours away from here

Dawn and sun downs are different in each province. Same idea with planting zones

am I clear as mud ??? lol,lol

I should add it has to do with how far we are from the equator and how long it takes the sun to circle the earth

zone 6 A is warmer than 4 but again the sun distant has eveythiing to do with it

zone 6 can grow a wider variety of plants and some can withstand the winters because that climate may not be as cold as here . Mainly because the sun moves further away in winters in our climate so the sun is lower meaning further away

Meggie

zone 6 is a lot warmer than 4

I am 5B

I keep trying to change my zone on here and I save it but it won't take

There is a common name for this plant but I can't think of it, can you?

thank

Carolyn, I was just surprised that my aquilegias were more advanced than yours, and that our last frost date here is supposed to be around May 24, and yours is June 10?
Would think it should be the other way around.
The other names I know for Aquilegias are Colombines and Grannies Bonnets.

Meggie

our last frost date is always around that date

This year I think June 1st I just looked it up

I guess one needs to understand how the sun circles the earth to understand the rest

Very pretty Richard. They remind of seedlings I've grown in the past from Doublepleat Blue and White seeds. My favorite part about these mixes is the different shades of blue you get from plant to plant.

Loretta, do you still have the mix in your garden?
Would love to see pics when they flower if you do.

I grew those before I had a digital. Any seedlings that came after wasn't as full or nice but still varied in colors. I do have one old picture on hand. The only reason I have this one is that it either took a few more years to bloom or maybe it lived longer than the rest.

I wonder if the only way we can keep them true is by dividing them.
