I have a million A. vulgaris plants (deep blue, nodding flowers). A year or two ago I had a deep purple A. clematiflora. I'm guessing those two crossed to give me the upturned, purple vulgaris-like flower from this one:

I love clematiflora. It is one of my favourites. Upward turned flowers are always a bonus and the colour of this one is lovely.
