Hi all,

I got some seeds today from blue and pale pink aquilegias. I was wondering if I can put them today in the ground, will they grow now, and flower next year? I was wondering because near my old aquilegia (which is all dried up by now) are growing new ones.

Any advice is more then wellcome.
Thank you!

I had some success last year. Andy, another gardenbuddy said he does this too all the time. My blue ones germinated during the summer and came back this spring. Maybe if you go through some posts from last year, you will find more details.

I would say sow some now but save some, just in case you need to winter sow some.

I know people who plant them in the fall but I plant them when the plant plants them as soon as the pods dry and open.

They can be sown as soon as now as we are seeing the pods turn brown already.

It makes sense to me to wait until the pods open and also to save some. We don't know how dry the rest of summer will be.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I'll do as suggested, I'll plant some now, and leave the rest for winter.
The pods on mine turned brown and opened a month ago, so I already have small plants (prosumably from this years seeds).

Thank you again for suggestions :)
