This is zamioculcas zamiiflora, it apparently used to be used as a houseplant in Victorian times then went out of favor, and now it's become very popular again. It's very easy to grow, requires little water because of its thick stems, and will tolerate poor light, although they perform better in brighter conditions. I love my plant

Here's a new stem emerging

Very nice. Looks like your kitty likes the plant too, Sue.

Sue! I'm so excited. I finally found one. And in the unlikeliest of places. After going to every nursery around here, I walked into a Lowe's on Sunday (like Home Depot), and they had a 12" in their "indoor foliage" section. I scarfed it up!!

It's a very interesting plant. The "stalks" are actually leaves, and the "leaves" you see are leaflets off the stem--it's a bit like a Spathiphyllum in that regard. So far so good..the kitties bit into it, but didn't seem to like the taste. And it's so hard to find a house plant that can take such low light and low water and still look so good.

David, I'm so pleased! It's amazing how this plant has languished in the land of the forgotten for such a long time! It's so beautiful.

I'm glad you were able to buy such a big plant, is it in a 12" pot or 12" high. Mine has 14 'stalks' (great word!). We don't have Lowe's here in Maine, but I'm not surprised you found one there.

Do post a photo when you can, I'd love to see your plant!
