We finally got some pics of our bobcat. My husband shot these two photos a day apart. Isn't he beautiful?!

Beautiful indeed. Is this a wild bobcat?

Yes, definately wild. He started showing up around Christmas and we never had a camera at hand before he melted into the woods, until a few days ago. The bottom shot is the first picture taken and is a zoom, so it is a bit grainy. The other shot, the one where he is looking at the camera, was taken the day after and he ran off when he saw that he was being watched. Both photos were taken from my greenhouse.

Wonderful shot Kathy. How big is it? About the same as an ordinary cat or bigger? I would love to come and sit in your greenhouse one day. You see the most incredible wildlife from it. Did you build it in that position with that in mind?

The bobcat is a bit larger than a domestic cat and he has huge furry feet to walk across the snow. I'd love to have you come sit in my greenhouse! We built it in the only spot that we could, it is on the south-facing side of our house and is on the second story. Here are a few pictures of it and one of some steps up to it that we put in last fall.

HAHA! That is not what I had in my head when you said greenhouse. I was thinking 8x6ft glasshouse, couple of shelves, a heater to keep the tender plants from freezing. That is an awesome sunroom. What a fantastic viewing area of everything that is going on. Do I spy a lemon or an orange in one of the pots? How long have you lived there Kathy? Did you build the house as well or just add the sunroom (I cannot call it a greenhouse!) Is it a garage underneath? What are you planning with the surroundings? Do I ask too many questions?! Sorry...

I usually call it a sunroom/greenhouse, but that gets tedious when I'm "hunt and peck" typing so I just called it a greenhouse. If you click on the "My Garden" link under my user name you can see not only some pictures but a few videos, one being a video of some things in the greenhouse with some "rainforest" background noise. I put the "summer night" noises on when the sun goes down and I feel like getting away and reading a garden magazine in there. We built the greenhouse in the fall of 2001, before that, I grew all my plants either in front of the floor to ceiling windows or under shop lights in my closet and dining room. We live on top of a little knoll in view of the covered bridge which is the entrance to our tiny village. We did not build the house. I don't have a lot of growing space, but do have lots of woods, bog, and a small stream and we are just across the street from a river that of course goes under the covered bridge. Under the greenhouse is where our front door is along with the dog's pen (it is half the size now since he spends very little time in it). Oh, and yes, that is a 'Hamlin' orange with one fruit on it that you see. Here is a couple pictures, one of our house taken from a spot in front of a little general store and one of the covered bridge taken from the same spot but just turning to the right.
And no, you don't ask too many questions. :) Kathy

WOW that's quite a set up, I would be too tempted to offer him a treat, say a mouse tied down for him. Sorry if that's cruel, to the mouse that is :)

I was lucky to see a bobcat in the wild once. My old BF was baiting deer and the wildcat walked through the clearing, paused and looked across the wooded area, up to where I was watching from the deck and then calmly walked away. I guess it's a bit unusual to see them during the day. A very nice setting you have and your greenhouse is Fab! And the covered bridge...Wo! I'll bet you have beautiful Fall color in your yard and nearby. Will be anxious to see more of your photos.

That has to be the understatement of the year Kathy! You could not possibly get one more plant in there and yet I already know you have been out buying more plants LOL! Where on earth are your newbies going to go? (rhetorical, I am sure you will make room) It must take up all your time looking after them all. I know a lot of them are cacti and succulents but even so. Your house does seem to be very precarious up there but you must have some great views. Love the bridge, looks like one I saw in a scary film a while ago. (can't think of the name for the life of me) We don't have any bridges here that look anything like that. Funny just noticed you live in New Hampshire. Does that mean I live in the old one? and before I go I have to mention the video of the squirrel eating off your leg...just brilliant! ...It was a red one wasn't it? That must have tickled so much. Well done for managing to sit still for so long.

Kathy, I don't know what is cooler, the bobcat, the greenhouse, or the covered bridge! All are awesome! DH and I enjoyed NH and really like your state motto as well. :)

There was a scary movie shot here in town some years back called "Skeletons In The Closet". We were able to see filming of scenes involving a car chase through the covered bridge from our deck. Very exciting. And my husband, who was on a police detail(security and traffic control) for the movie people, was asked to appear in a scene as a police officer ( an extra) in the background radioing in the finding of a dead body in the river near the bridge and holding back a relative of the victim who was trying to see the body. His big acting moment. Budweiser beer also used our bridge in a commercial with the Clydesdale horses, and a car company also used the bridge in a commercial. It is a much photographed bridge.
Ah,yes, "Live Free or Die", it says it all. We love our little piece of heaven on earth here.

What an attractive cat! I suppose they're kind of handy in keeping the rodent population down and I'd be delighted to see one in person too! We don't have bobcats on Vancouver Island, or Lynx, but we do have cougars, and they are clearly not as cute as a bobcat!

hehe. I am sure you kept his feet on the ground but it must have been so much fun, for both of you not just your filmstar hubby.

Very cute kitty! We have lots of tracks but it is very unusual to have a visual with a bobcat. Very nice pictures!

What a wonderful capture. He's looking right into the camera too. We were lucky enough to have foxes and kits in our yard for a couple of months last spring.
