I tried poking it with a stick but it didn't move. It looks like its a gynormous spider and it freaks me out!

Could it be a spider with an egg sac? It's amazing! See what develops...

I've just been looking on BugGuide.net and think it might be a red crab spider. Hope someone will know.

Yes, that's the spider's body, not an egg sac. It looks awesome!

I would be a little frightened of that one, I think. At least it's outside. However, Sally here, thinks she could coax the shyness out of him. Hmmmm..

Ann, thanks! I'm going there now. (Bug guide) Yes, I thought at first, it was an egg sac, then not sure. It's nested securely in my Baptisia; I do know that. Tanya

That's an interesting site. Wondering if it's a shamrock spider? In either case, I've never seen one like it before. And I just checked to see if it moved; it hasn't.

Guessing it won't move around much, looks like a sedentary type, not a wandering wolf-type spider. Shouldn't bother you at all, and its nice and colourful.

The scary (albeit colorful and unusual) spider is gone---moved on. Tomorrow I'll have to check the Baptisia to see if there are eggs or....

It looks like it's trying to cover its eyes and hide from your camera, Denise. Great photo of it. Tanya I have webs all over my garden right now!

I wonder if they go into a winter dormancy? I admit to being spider-knowledge-challenged.
