Mother's place. That's a barn in the 2nd photo in the background.

Florida is so famous for its beaches, that people don't realize how quaint her rural areas are.

That's true, Zack. Gloria, now tell us the rest of the story ... about the little white lights. ;)

That's true. I think FL also has a LOT of horses and cattle as well.

Mother isn't doing real well these days, so she left those Christmas lights up three or four years ago. I don't have the heart to take them down because I don't live near enough to take them down and put them back up for her. You are so right Zack. And it really is very beautiful there. While it isn't what I would choose personally any longer, I feel a sense of serenity that I don't get many other places. I posted the photos because of just what you said: people think of palm trees and beaches in Florida.

I thought they might be garden lights. A lot of people around here use the lights to highlight parts of their yard/garden year round.

They're actually on her back porch, so no one sees them anyway.
When I left home, I thought I would *never* want to go back to the country life. I vowed that I would *never* pick beans or squash, or dig potatoes, ever again. I've eaten those words time and time again. LOL -- I think it's a beautiful lifestyle now.

How serene. I've been to Florida many times but I don't remember seeing such a scene. Might there be alligators in that water?

Actually, yes, Loretta. Mother lives inland (not on the ocean), and her property backs up to a swamp. In years when they have been in a drought, they have seen gators in the pond. It worries me because humans cannot out-run alligators, and Mother doesn't move very fast anyway. I've asked her not to go walking out there, but she loves it so much that she does it anyway.

I'm only about ten miles from the beach in the Daytona Beach area and that's what my yard resembles...we are only about five miles from town...getting harder to find rural areas in Central Florida nowadays...so much development being done in "Greenspace Areas"...
